NYC Arrest Shows Feds Getting it RightBy Bill West
The New York Post Online Edition today reported that Tariq Javid, a suspected ringleader of a Pakistani-based terror organization named Sipah-e-Sahaba, was arrested in New York yesterday on a Federal criminal complaint that he allegedly lied on his immigration forms about his terrorist connections. Last year, Javid was observed taking photographs of the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges in New York, and counter-terrorism investigators have reportedly been watching Javid for a long time. This appears to be a case where the Feds have decided theyve waited and watched long enough, and have moved with whatever viable evidence they feel they can open to public scrutiny. Once again, that evidence links suspected terrorism to immigration fraud. Javid, of course, is presumed innocent until proven guilty and he is due his due process. This case will be another one to watch closely. If the Government proves its case, it will establish, once again, that terrorist aliens abuse our immigration system for their nefarious and dangerous purposes. Attacking those terrorist aliens through such violations may be a viable and laudable approach; however, recognizing the extreme vulnerabilities within the larger immigration system and making the proper fixes are even more important.
