Update on Posada Case

By Bill West

ICE issued a press release today concerning the further action they have taken in the case of suspected terrorist alien Luis Posada Carriles, who was arrested by ICE agents in Miami, Florida yesterday after he left a "semi-clandestine" news conference there. Posada has now been formally charged in removal proceedings and is being initially held without bond. He is scheduled for a hearing before an Immigration Judge on June 13. The text of the ICE press statement is posted below.

ICE STATEMENT ON LUIS POSADA-CARRILES

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has served Mr. Posada with a charging document alleging that he entered the United States without inspection in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

ICE has also notified Mr. Posada that it plans to hold him in custody without bond. If he so desires, Mr. Posada will have the opportunity to seek a re-determination of his custody status at a bond hearing before an Immigration Judge. At such a bond hearing, ICE would present its arguments for holding him without bond.

In the meantime, an initial master calendar hearing has been scheduled for Mr. Posada to appear before an Immigration Judge on June 13, 2005."
