French foreign Minister officially thanked Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi!

By Olivier Guitta

Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and TV star on Al Jazeera, who called for killings of Americans in Iraq, civilians or not and approves suicide bombings in Israel even against children and babies because as he put it one day they'll grow up to wear the Israel Defense Forces uniform, gave a mind boggling interview to the French Islamist website oumma.com. Incidentally, Oumma is the website used by the UOIF, the French branch of the Muslim brotherhood.
Qaradawi revealed that Philippe Douste-Blazy, French foreign minister, sent him a letter congratulating and thanking him for the release of the French journalist Florence Aubenas abducted in Iraq. Also he recalls how Michel Barnier, Douste- Blazy predecessor, came to see him to plead the case of two other French journalist kidnapped in Iraq in 2004. Qaradawi adds that he thanked Barnier at that time for France's stance in Iraq. He also called on Al Jazeera twice to ask for the release of the two French journalists in 2004 and that of Florence Aubenas in 2005.

Interestingly enough for a man who " calls for tolerance" as he defines himself,he never appealed to the kidnappers in the case of US, Italian or British hostages. Lastly, even when asked by the Islamist oumma.com about his definition of suicide bombingsor rather what he calls "martyr's operations", Qaradawi firmly refuses to answer the question. That says it all.
Qaradawi also complains about his bad reputation in France -indeed his book was banned in France- while he is so respected in government circles. It looks like the common sense of the average Frenchman is pretty good.
Regarding Qaradawi, it looks that the British authorities are not better than the French. After the 7/7 attacks, the Foreign office is still recommending to welcome Qaradawi in the Kingdom. I thought Blair wanted to expel the preachers of hate, so why import one even for a short visit?
