Katrina Victims Need Our Help and Better Information From Media and Government - And We Are Obviously NOT READY (updated)

By Andrew Cochran

To quote Michelle Malkin, "Today's the day!" We're joining with hundreds of blogs around the world to urge you to give to a number of terrific charities. We start with the American Red Cross - Doug Farah and I add Catholic Charities - Doug also recommends the Mennonite Disaster Services - the Salvation Army has been on the ground in New Orleans since the first hours - others add United Jewish Communities - my co-worker Rachel Sullivan adds Habitat for Humanity, which will no doubt be able to build new housing in a hurry. We'll add more during the day. And Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit.com is aggregating the lists. LET'S OPEN OUR CHECKBOOKS AND CONTINUE OUR PRAYERS!!

ANOTHER point - lots of media stories on what's going wrong in New Orleans, but very little about pickup sites in New Orleans to prepare for evacuation. By TV, radio, bullhorn, and airborne banner, the media, government, and military have to tell the healthy where to go so they can catch a bus or truck to get out of town. One of my best friends has a brother who was in good condition there, but he didn't know where to go in town. The brother got out by finding someone with a van - with no official assistance. And a MSNBC correspondent in N.O. reiterated this morning that "nobody knows what to do" and the police officers around her also had no food or water. There are NO EXCUSES for this three days after the hurricane hit.

FINALLY - THIS SHOWS US HOW UNPREPARED WE ARE FOR A MAJOR URBAN TERRORIST ATTACK - almost four years after the 9/11 attacks and on the first anniversary of the Beslan school terrorist attacks - the terrorists watch the chaos in New Orleans and plan.....
