What game is Iraqi Shia Sheikh Al Khalissi playing?
By Olivier Guitta
Sheikh Jawad Al Khalessi, Shia imam of the Al Kazemiya mosque in Baghdad and General Secretary of the Iraqi National Congress, had some very "juicy" revelations. In an interview with Le Monde, he declared:
Abu Musab Al Zarqawi is dead. He is an invention of the occupying forces to divide the people of Iraq because he was killed in the north of Iraq at the onset of the war. His family in Jordan even organized a ceremony after his death. Zarqawi is an excuse for the Americans not to leave Iraq.
Also, he denied the fact that Najaf was in the hands of the Iraqi Army saying it was only a smokescreen for the media. He called for a boycott of the constitutional vote whereas Ayatollah Sistani just did the opposite.
So here you have it again: another wild rumor about Zarqawi, a Sheikh trying to get attention and an Iraqi puzzle where our friends are sometimes not the ones we think would be grateful for liberating them,i.e. the Shia community.
