Excerpts from Zawahiri's Latest Audio Recording

On January 18, credible Al-Qaida chat forums on the Internet began to announce that Al-Qaida’s As-Sahab Media Wing was due to release a new audio recording of Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri. Yesterday afternoon, these chat forums posted copies of a 17-minute long recording by Zawahiri extolling the “martyrs” of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad Movement. Zawahiri concludes by reading a lengthy poem originally conceived by a mujahideen Mullah in Afghanistan. Although the voice on the audio is almost certainly that of Zawahiri, it is unclear how recently the speech was actually recorded. Below are excerpts of Zawahiri’s speech before his reading of the Mullah’s poem.
