Immigration, Fraud and Terror

Today, pro-immigration law enforcement crusader Michelle Malkin posted on her Blog a stark reminder of the linkage between illegal immigration, document fraud and terrorism. With the release of the security video of the hijacked American Airlines jetliner attack on the Pentagon on 9/11, our political leaders continue to debate massive immigration “reform” that may lead to the legalization of millions of illegal aliens within the United States.

Those proposed immigration reforms will likely carry a specific cut-off date requiring illegal aliens to establish they were within the US before that date to be eligible for any legalization benefit. Any “guest worker” program will also require “proof” the alien has certain job skills and “proof” there is an employer willing to hire the alien. The nation saw similar issues during the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) that was commonly known as “Legalization.” The 1986 IRCA, the supposed one-time-only “amnesty” that also created the first-ever employer sanctions law that was supposed to stop the flow of illegal immigration by cutting off the incentive for such flow, was a complete disaster and failure. The only resultant success was the huge industry in false and fraudulent documents to support the massive number of fraudulent legalization claims, very few of which were criminally prosecuted nor even denied administratively.

There is no reason to believe the same thing will not happen again with a “guest worker” program or a system leading to an “earned path to citizenship.” Fraud and false documents will capsize an already overwhelmed immigration system that cannot handle its existing missions. How many among the millions of newly legalized aliens will have obtained their new status by lying and cheating their way through a system incapable of dealing with their fraud? Will it even matter? From the direction our alleged political leaders are taking this, apparently not.

One cannot watch Ms. Malkin’s video Blog on this topic and be reminded of how the 9/11 terrorists utilized the widespread and virtually unmolested underground false document economy in the illegal immigration underworld that operates in plain sight to help facilitate their deadly attacks on America and not realize how critically important these issues really are. Unfortunately, it appears none of that may really matter.
