Counterterrorism Foundation News

By Douglas Farah

Today the Counterterrorism Foundation, which operates the Counterterrorism Blog and of which I am a director, received a welcome letter from the IRS, informing us that CTF has been granted tax-exempt status under IRC Section 501(c)(3). The exemption is effective April 26 of last year, the date of our incorporation, and the ruling under this determination is effective through calendar year 2010, at which time CTF must justify continuation of the status. This is an important moment for CTF, and we appreciate all the support we have received.

This will enable the CTF to do numerous things as we continue to try to grow. One of the areas where we are growing is in broadening and deepening the board of directors. To this end we are very pleased to announce that Jeffrey Breinholt, on leave from his job as deputy of the counterterrorism division at the Department of Justice, has agreed to join the board. We are also very pleased to announce the addition of David Kaplan, a long-time U.S. News and World Report journalist who is well-known for his expertise on terrorism, organized crime and the overlap of the two.

So, we look forward to the coming months and will keep you posted on developments.
