QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
What is the mission of the Counterterrorism Foundation?
The Counterterrorism Foundation (CTF) seeks to increase public awareness of the daily happenings in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) by supporting the work of the Co-Editors and the Contributing Experts of the Counterterrorism Blog.
How does the CTF achieve its mission?
The CTF provides financial support to the Counterterrorism Blog and to the Contributing Experts for their research and reporting activities covering the many facets of the GWOT. Examples of “related research and reporting” include the financing of public panels with Contributing Experts, special research projects and embedded reporting by Contributing Experts, speaking appearances, and a range of educational and journalistic publications. The majority of the resulting publications will be posted on the Counterterrorism Blog.
What activities have been funded by the Counterterrorism Foundation, and what are your future plans?
The Foundation pays the expenses incurred in connection with the operation of this website and the public panels listed on the home page. Those panels have examined topics such as the future of the Turkey-U.S. strategic partnership, the tension existing between Iran and the U.S., and the evolution of U.S. counterterrorism policy over the past 35 years. The panels have drawn audiences of Members and staff of the U.S. Congress, foreign diplomats, counterterrorism experts in the U.S. government and non-governmental community, and the press. You can read transcripts of each panel event by clicking on the link for each in the left sidebar of the home page. Additionally, the Counterterrorism Foundation supported an embed by then-Contributing Expert Bill Roggio in May of 2006 with the Canadian Army in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Bill spent four weeks in Afghanistan and rode along with the Canadian troops of the 1st Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry during an operation in Kandahar. You can see the results of the trip on the Afghanistan Embed page. CTF is currently seeking funding for the operating expenses of the Counterterrorism Blog and for a range of research projects proposed by the Contributing Experts.
What is the CTF’s legal standing?
The CTF is a non-profit organization that has been approved by the IRS for Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, effective on April 26, 2006, the date of incorporation.
